If you are planning to hire someone to work on your house, remember a few key things so that you don't get scammed.

  1. NEVER pay anything until the job is done! Legitimate contractors have accounts set up with businesses to get the materials that they need.
  2. Make sure you have a signed contract. Without a signed contract it is just your word against the contractors.
  3. Check with the Better Business Bureau of Rhode Island, 785-1212, to make sure there have not been any complaints filed against the contractor you are thinking about hiring.

Hopefully, these simple tips will keep you from losing any money and you will get what you want without a lot of hassle.
