For my friends in Cranston, Johnston, and Warwick dealing with the threats against the schools- So, the Sandy Hook mom is going to chime in here- my kids go to school with police officers everyday. I promise the police will make it ok for the kids- they will put the kids at ease. Everyday my kids are a target. We get calls every week from whack jobs saying crazy stuff. We have crazy people show up at the school and get denied access because people have the audacity to think that 12/14 was not real. Personally, I think there should be an officer at every school period. That being said, I don't think there is any validity to the threat. When stuff really happens, they don't typically call in ahead of time to warn folks. I've come to the conclusion that and come to accept after living through 12/14 and the aftermath, that there is only so much I can do. I want to do everything I can to protect my children but I cannot make them live under a rock. Even if I locked us in the house, we could die of a fire, or carbon monoxide or a home invasion. When we go out in the car, we are all at risk, evidenced by us surviving a roll over car accident as well. I don't blame you or fault you if you keep your child home. Last week I was one of the 1st parents to arrive to pick up my children when we got a bomb threat. I just want you to know that I understand the uneasy feeling of sending your kids off to school when there is a threat against them- I've done it everyday since 12/14 but each day, we put on our brave face and smile and send our kids off to school.
