The Warwick Police Department was established in 1921.  Prior to that the villages of Warwick were policed by constables and sheriffs since 1648.  The department currently has 172 sworn police officers supported by 53 civilian employees that provide municipal policing services to a residential population of 81,000.

Warwick Police Department Headlines

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On July 17, 2015 at 1809 hrs, the Warwick Police Department responded to a car and bicyclist accident in the area of 850 Bald Hill Road. The Traffic Division Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating the accident. The accident involved one vehicle operated by a 23 year old male from Cranston, and a 64 year old male bicyclist. The bicyclist was transported to Rhode Island Hospital by Warwick Fire Rescue with serious injuries where he later died. The bicyclist's identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The preliminary investigation disclosed that the vehicle was traveling north on Bald Hill Road in the left lane when the vehicle collided with the bicyclist who initially appears to have been walking his bike across the roadway from the eastbound side of Bald Hill road towards the westbound side. The bicyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The investigation is on-going and any person with information related to the accident is requested to contact the Warwick Police Department Traffic Division at 401-468-4293. Please contact either Sgt. Earl Read of Officer Sarkisian who is assigned as the lead investigator.
