The Warwick Police Department was established in 1921.  Prior to that the villages of Warwick were policed by constables and sheriffs since 1648.  The department currently has 172 sworn police officers supported by 53 civilian employees that provide municipal policing services to a residential population of 81,000.

The Warwick Police responded to a bank robbery at the Coastway Community Bank, 3830 Post Road, at 9:48 am on June 16, 2015.


The preliminary investigation has disclosed that the suspect entered the bank alone, at approximately 9:45 am and demanded money from two tellers. The suspect fled on foot south on Post Road. The suspect is described as a white male, believed to be in his late forties or early fifties, approximately 5'7", slender build, wearing a black baseball hat, camouflage mask, sunglasses, black gloves, a dark blue or black jacket, believed to be "The North Face" brand, blue jeans, and sneakers. The suspect had dark colored shoulder length hair which may have been a wig. The male suspect fled with an undisclosed amount of money. No one was injured as a result of this incident and no weapon was shown or mentioned by the suspect.
